Han Changfu, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, met with Tereza Cristina, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply of Brazil, in Beijing on October 23. They had in-depth discussions on advancing agricultural cooperation between China and Brazil.
Han said that China and Brazil are important strategic partners with agricultural cooperation being the focus and highlight of the bilateral economic and trade relations. In recent years, the bilateral cooperation mechanism has been continuously improved, agricultural trade has developed rapidly, exchanges in science and technology have been strengthened, and bilateral investment has been on the rise. For the work in the future, Han suggested that the two ministries sign an action plan on agriculture, hold the first meeting of the China-Brazil Digital Working Group on Agriculture in China next year; and continue to promote the joint breeding of Chinese varieties in Brazil. Han also responded to issues concerning China's pesticide export to Brazil and the long-term plan for bilateral trade.
Cristina fully agreed with and expressed strong support for Han's proposals, and said that Brazil attached great importance to China-Brazil agricultural cooperation and wanted to further expand the scope of cooperation and pushed forward sustainable agricultural development so as to bring more benefits to the people of both countries.
